FAQs
What is the Aloha rug made of?
Aloha rugs are made of a natural fiber called coir which is derived from coconuts. This sustainable material is durable and has excellent color retention. Aloha rugs by Momeni are also handwoven with PVC for added durability.
How long does a coir mat last?
Coir is a long-lasting, easy-to-clean natural material. At the entrance of your home, a coir doormat may last for up to 6 to 10 years. In addition, selecting a 1-inch-thick coir mat, or one with a thicker gauge will extend the life of the rug even further.
What is the best way to protect my coir mat?
You can extend the life of your coir mat by placing it in a sheltered area, out of direct sunlight and rain. If possible, place it on a covered deck or patio where it will have protection from the elements. Always clean spills immediately in order to maintain their quality.
Are coir mats waterproof?
Coir mats are somewhat water-resistant. Coir is recognized for its toughness, flexibility, and moisture absorption. These hard-wearing carpets may readily remove moisture from shoes. But, if there is a lot of rain or snow, it's best to bring the mat inside to prevent it from becoming saturated and heavy. Excess water can cause your Aloha outdoor rug to have uneven coloration after sustained flooding.
How can I clean my coir Aloha mat?
To remove surface dirt and debris, vacuum or shake out your coir mat. For deeper cleaning, mix 1 teaspoon of mild soap with 1/4 liter of warm water. Use a sponge or brush to apply the solution to the soiled areas of your rug. Rinse the mat with clean water and allow it to air dry completely before using it again.
You may also use a combination of detergent and vinegar to clean the Aloha indoor outdoor rug. Add one teaspoon of vinegar to your detergent solution to remove dust from your doorstep. For stubborn stains, use a 1:1 ratio of ammonia and water (one teaspoon of ammonia to one cup of water). Work the solution into the mat with a brush, and after an outdoor rinse, allow it to dry completely in the sun.
How do I stop my indoor outdoor area rug from shedding?
If the mat is installed in a recessed area, it will shed far less than if it is simply laid on the ground. Because the mat's edges will be enclosed within the recess, bristles will only shed on the walking surface of the matting, rather than along its entire perimeter! The Aloha carpet may also be vacuumed regularly to help reduce shedding. To minimize any loose bristles from the surface of the matting traveling onto the neighboring flooring and outdoor rugs, you'll have to vacuum it regularly, particularly in the first few weeks.
My outdoor rug is sliding around. What should I do?
The best way to keep these flat woven outdoor rugs in place is to use double-sided tape or carpet tacks. Just be sure to place them around the mat's perimeter, rather than on top of the design. This will help to preserve the lifespan of your Aloha floral rug and prevent any damage to your flooring.
